Robert Downey Jr enjoying UFC 154
I reblog this every time it comes across my dash. They look SO lovely. The way Robert looks at Jude? The way Jude seems the most relaxed when he’s next to him? I just love their relationship. In an alternate universe, they would surely fall in love and be together forever.
But for now, I can lean on the fact that they crossed paths. Meeting someone that is a soul mate is always great. And these two truly are soul mates. They clearly bring out the better of one another in the ways that a strong friendship should.
Jude, for instance, has always been vulnerable, and somehow cursed because of his beauty. People expect him to be a certain way because he’s beautiful. You can have good looks and no skill and Hollywood will take you in, even if you’re talentless and shallow. Jude, however, has so much to offer. He’s smart and incredibly talented. But I think that he is underestimated greatly, mostly because he has always taken on secondary roles. (Of course, I think he takes those secondary roles because he doesn’t want to be headlined for the aforementioned reasons.)
I think Robert knows that and sees that in Jude. And he… protects him. I mean, Robert gives everyone compliments (he’s great, yadda yadda), but his compliments of Jude aren’t for the media. They are for his friend. Even if Jude is a grown man and doesn’t need protection, everyone needs petting. And Robert understands that Jude likes recognition for what’s in his head, not just what people see at a distance (although he appreciates both).
There was one interview in particular where he says that Jude is a nerd about reading. That was him saying “I know this guy, and he is far more than you expect of him.” I don’t know… it seems like he is always making note of the way Jude cares for the craft, as well as his intelligence, and even eggs him to play around more than he does.
And Jude recognizes all of this. He tries to be so incredibly private with his life, as he very well should, but the way he opens up around Robert shows that he has this trust in him. Robert made his way in, and Jude seems happier for it.
I could talk about these guys for days. I won’t call it a bromance because Jude hates it. It truly is a romance, and they recognize it. I think we simply… belittle what romance is sometimes. We think it just has to be sexualized or whatever. Don’t get me wrong, I ship them like any other ship, and think that they would be absolutely lovely together if the stars aligned. But, since that doesn’t seem to be in the cards, I accept them as a couple of guys who have a romantic friendship that you rarely see, and can only hope to experience..
But don’t mind me…
Reblogging again because reasons. Also because your rdjude’s vision and your fantastic way to put it on words, Sym. <3
I grinned at this stupidly for 5 minutes and then decided to re-blog it.
RDJ: If Holmes and Watson – if we’ve done a female version of it – right? (…) I could only understand the film in the context of them being lesbians.
